VTG Rail UK Ltd was established in 2002, following VTG’s acquisition of Brambles European Rail Division.

Prior to that the company traded as CAIB UK Ltd, tracing its roots through the decades with companies such as Procor, STS, BRTE, and Traffic Services. The fleet has more than doubled due to the introduction of many new-build wagons, plus the acquisition of companies like AAE and Nacco. Today we are the largest private wagon-leasing company with a fleet of approximately 4,500 vehicles in the UK.

The company is part of Hamburg-based VTG GmbH, the European leader for private sector wagon-leasing with around 88,500 wagons.

These assets, combined with a comprehensive portfolio of rail and tank container logistics services, digital solutions, and its own maintenance and manufacturing facilities, make VTG a powerful player in the rail freight sector.

VTG will transport even more raw materials and finished goods in the future, safely and sustainably.

We offer a wide range of rail freight solutions in the UK, across the Intermodal, Standard Freight and Tank Wagon sectors. We are also harnessing the technology of the future for today’s rail freight through numerous innovations and technological developments, such as digitalisation and modular solutions.

The drive towards digitalisation is part of VTG’s commitment to revolutionising the way information relating to wagon condition, status, and location is gathered.

We allow customers to intelligently use data from digitally-enabled freight wagons. This establishes tracking and tracing, shock monitoring, and environmental temperature measurement.

The VTG Rail UK team consists of around 30 highly skilled and experienced experts. We cover the whole of the UK and Ireland from our headquarters in Birmingham. Further resources are available as required from our European organisation.
