VTG Rail UK has appointed Rizwan Shaik as Standards and Reliability Engineer

Rizwan joins VTG following his role as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate.

As a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate, Rizwan has collaborated with the University of Huddersfield and the Rail Wagon Association on a nationally funded project focused on freight wheelset maintenance. With a background in rail and mechanical engineering, he has worked internationally and brings experience from both research and industry perspectives.

He said: “I was attracted to work for VTG Rail UK because the company is a step ahead in the industry in terms of its innovations including digitalisation and harnessing data to make rail freight safer and more efficient. I’m very much looking forward to playing my part in the company’s continued success and I am grateful to the VTG team for the opportunity to work with them in the exciting times ahead.”

As part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership with the University of Huddersfield, Rizwan worked closely with the members of the Rail Wagon Association to develop tools that support freight wheelset maintenance. His work included creating a mobile application based on the Wheel Tread Damage Guide and collaborating with stakeholders across the rail freight industry.
